Mah-jongg is more than a game. It is a bonding experience and a networking tool. Sometimes it's the inroad to a whole social life.
I started thinking about people relocating during retirement and having difficulty meeting new friends or getting into established mah-jongg games about 10 years ago-That was around 2009. So, I started a Facebook group called: "we love mah-jongg!" The goal was to connect mah-jongg players and exchange playing information. I now have over 2000 members in that group, across the United States and Canada.
My tournaments, held at the Westchester Golf & Country Club in Boynton Beach are also great ways to meet new people and have a fun day out!
I had those same fears, when I was a snowflake here in Florida. My Facebook group and my mah-jongg tournaments for charity gave me purpose and a sense of paying back. That is how jokers wild mj tournaments was born. A hobby to keep me busy, that gave me much more than I was looking for. Hope to see you at my tournaments soon. -Bettyann
